About

The wound refers to a traumatic injury characterized by an interruption of the continuity of the skin (skin). Most wounds occur accidentally with a wide variety of mechanisms through which they can occur: hitting, cutting, stabbing, thermal or chemical aggression, biting, etc.

Injuries resulting in skin wounds are common in both adults and children.

Small or medium-term trauma resulting in skin wounds or associated soft tissue injuries can be resolved at the Hebe Medical Center.

General treatment

The general treatment of a skin wound should include:

• antibiotic therapy - mandatory in case of infected wounds

• tetanus prophylaxis

• rabies prophylaxis in case of animal bite wounds

Local treatment

The local treatment of a wound is performed under local anesthesia with xylin and comprises the following steps:

• wound toilet- is made with solutions: hydrogen peroxide, betadine and aims to sanitize the wound

• hemostasis - includes all the measures taken to stop the bleeding

• wound debridement - consists in the excision of devitalized tissues

• suturing - aims to speed up wound healing

• drainage - consists in placing a drainage tube that allows the evacuation of liquids from the wound

• dressing

In small children, in selected cases, small wounds without a lack of substance can be solved by a less traumatic method: after asepticization of the wound, the edges of the wound will be fixed with special adhesive tapes called steri-strips that practically replace the suture.

Before treating a wound, it is recommended to evaluate the wound and any associated injuries by a specialist.

Recommendations after suturing a wound

• avoiding local traumas

• antibiotic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory treatment depending on the case

the sutures are removed between 7 and 14 days depending on the area where the wound is

• local toilet with betadine and saline

• keeping the dressing dry

• control every 2-3 days or as needed

• in case of symptoms characteristic of an infection, the patient will consult a doctor
