What is a bichetomy?
Bichectomy is the surgery that consists in removing excess adipose tissue from the cheek area and thus creates a more contoured appearance of the cheekbones improving the appearance of the face.
When is this procedure recommended?
Bichectomy is recommended in the following situations:
• the patient is dissatisfied with the too rounded appearance of the face
• the patient is dissatisfied with the appearance of the cheeks
• the patient wants a more defined appearance of the face
What does surgery require?
The operation is performed under local anesthesia with xylin and consists in removing the fat bubble of Bichat (the adipose body of the cheeks) through an incision placed inside the oral cavity. The duration of the procedure is somewhere between 45-50 minutes.
What does postoperative recovery entail?
Immediately after the operation, bruises appear on the cheek mucosa, the area being inflamed and sensitive. It is recommended that the patient follow a special diet after surgery, which includes easily chewed foods so as not to strain the chewing muscles, avoid heavy physical exertion and keep the head elevated during sleep (use several pillows to keep the head in a higher position).
As the area heals, the inflammation will easily disappear and you will be able to see the results of the operation. Analgesics will be prescribed for pain control if a solution is needed to rinse the mucous membranes after each meal.
